I'm restoring my dads old 76 or 75? 16ft hobie cat, are the newer parts compatiable with this model?

Yes, they ought to be. Most are straightforward replacements but there are occasional considerations; for example the new shrouds are shorter than they were back then and the forestay is longer, so you'll want to order them in a group rather than one at a time. :)

In what year did the shroud/forestay change dimensions :?:

First in 1982. Longer forestay and shorter shrouds for more mast rake.

Then the shrouds shorter again in 1995 to match the H17 length (inventory issue) 1 1/2" shorter. The standard forestay is still a bit short for these shorter shrouds and requires an extra 10 hole forestay adjuster to get max rake.

Matt,

Are you saying you can use 1982 to 1994 forestay with the newer or current length shrouds, as long as you're using the 10 hole adjuster?

Or, define the standard forestay.

Also, I'm guessing it would be best to change to the latest mast step casting, to accomodate all this rake?

Yes, the 1982 to current standard forestay has not changed, but requires the extra 10 adjuster for maximum rake.
