Hello, Alright, I'm going to try and explain the issue without actually knowing the terms and terminology, so please bear with me. When raising the mainsail, I've realized that it is a bit torn in the sail joints at the side where "the rope inside the sail that goes into the luff tracks" is, this causes that part to get caught in the luff track entry upon raising. So my question is, What is the best way to repair the sail at these joints? Is it to pick up the threads and needles? Regards, Daniel |

Most large cities in America have sail repair shops. We even have one in Salt Lake City. All Hobie dealers have relationships with knowledgable sail repair persons, as sail repair is so common. If you cant find a sail shop, contact your nearest dealer. Good luck. Brian H18SX |

I assume the "joints" you're talking about are the batten pockets. Depending on the extent of the damage, it may be necessary to add significant reinforcing material to the luff so that the tears don't get worse. If you've never worked on a sail before, I would recommend that you take your sail to reputable sail maker/repair shop. If you want the sail repaired properly, it's often more involved than just slapping a patch over the damage and fixing with a hand needle and thread, especially in a highly loaded area of the sail such as the luff panels. An experienced sailmaker will have the tools, materials, and knowledge to fix your sail properly. sm |
