One of the forward boom cap casting, "tabs" broke. I have the new, replacement boom cap (came with the used boat) and the tabs have no holes in them for hardware and I immediately thought of self-tapping screws. Original factory attachment method was obviously s/s rivets. I'm thinking Brad w/Sunjammers mentioned the option of using s/s screws, but maybe that was an aft cap job? Would screws works? If so, self-tapping or should I drill and tap the tabs? I don't have access to the rivet gun and need to take this boat West on Saturday, I'm looking for the "quick fix", if possible. |

SS screws will work fine. You should drill out the hole to just under the size of the screw you will use. It is a compressive load on the cap so it does not have to be anything that will hold an elephant. Later, Dan |

Thanks Dan, I didn't think the load, other than maybe sheeted in with a lot of mast rotation would be a problem, but I'm selling the boat and wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something "cheesy" and have it fail prematurely. |
