| Post subject: | Sealing of leak at hull pylons |
Did the leak test on "Ole Blue". This consisted of loosely duct taping the exhaust of a vacuum to the drain plug and brushing soapy water all over the hulls. Found the biggest culprit to be around the forward hull pylon. This is this pylon that had a broken shoe, so it's movement has broken the seal at the deck. Is it best to flip it over and pour resin around the pylon from the inside? Or should I use something like 5200? It has remnants of silicone present on the outside at the deck joint. Is this effective? or should I try to lay a bead of epoxy or 5200 there? |

Leaking in forward pylon? There is a breather tube built into the forward pylon, so this is normal as long as the air is coming from the top of the tube and not around the deck. The breather helps to prevent damage from changing pressures. This is more than just altitude changes as the hulls get hot and pressured then cool rapidly when placed in the water. This, when not allowed to breath can cause delamination issues. |

Matt, I made sure the tube was clear, and then plugged it before soaping, also taped off the inspection port. Remember my previous post on the horizontal crack in the hull, caused by the broken pylon shoe? It is this forward pylon that is leaking around its perimeter, where the extrusion passes through the deck. Probably worked loose from the shoe being unattached. |
