Ok, so I just purchased the Ausie halyard kit. I got it through Murrary's, so it may be a bit different from the Hobie one. It came with a piece that you pop rivit into the mast that is to help keep the line near the mast. Is this super critical. I have a nice water tight mast and don't really like the idea of putting extra holes in it. So my questions are: Do I really need this, will the jib hang up on the halyard if I don't install it. How do you go about sealing up the rivits. Do I just goop on a bunch of silicon and then set the rivits? Thanks again for your help, Adam |

Go to your Hobie Dealer and get Rivit Caps. They allow you to seal a pop rivit. Hobie has them in the catalog. Keep your mast watertight! |

The kit did come with rivit caps, I was just wondering if I needed to use some silicone too. Any thoughts? Adam |

Are you a member of either Fleet 20 or Fleet 240? |

Jermey, Nope, I'm not a member of either fleet. I should probably check them out though. I've looked at their webpages. I do still have my initial question though. Is this eye strap necessary? Has anyone sailed with out installing it? Thanks guys, Adam |

Hobie Dude, Some guys use the strap and some guys don't. It definitely helps keep the halyard clear of the jib battens. With the caps, you should be able to make your mast watertight. Definitely lube them up with silicone. Make sure that the rivet caps are installed directly onto the mast- under the hardware. Some guys put them through the holes in the hardware and I've seen them work loose. A super trick way to do it that I've seen more frequently lately, is to install a small cheek block instead of the strap. You've got a pretty cool local dealer and a couple of awesome fleets in your area check them out. One trip to Woodward with fleet 20 and all of your Hobie questions will be answered ![]() |
