Can I use West System 404 High-Density Filler with 3M Resin? I already mixed it and used it to patch a small hole before I spray some gel coat. The problem its taking a long time to set, will it set it my real question. Of course I used hardener and prepped with 80 grit and compressed air. Please tell me this will work! JD |

The filler shouldn't have any effect on the cure rate of the resin. It's just calcium metasilicate and silicon dioxide - both are realtively inert. Shine an incandescent lamp on it for a couple of hours, or leave it in the sun. |

It is just taking a while to set I only added 8 drops of hardener for about 1.5 - 2 oz of resin and enough 404 to turn it into mayonnaise. The resin recommends 10 drops per ounce. I felt it this morning and it had set. I heard that adding less hardener makes the resin stronger overall even though it takes longer to set? This is not why I added 8 drops, the 8 drops was a goof. |

4 to 6 drops of hardener per oz of resin is probably not enough. I usually use at least 10 to 12 drops per oz...but I'm also not a very patient person. http://uscomposites.com/pdf/MEKPDirections.pdf sm |
