Post subject:  Caulking tramp posts : breathing hulls.

My '83 Hobie 16 tramp columns have a channel in the rear about 1/4" wide. Thinking this might be where water was entering my hulls, I recaulked around the base of the columns where they meet the hulls, and filled this channel.

I seem to have less water now, but am wondering if I've filled a spot that was designed to let the hulls 'breathe', as temperature changes.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the breather holes are in the forward pylons. Perhaps you can remove a small amount of the caulking near the top.

You can also find a leak detection procedure in the FAQ area of these sailing forums (upper most topic).
