The mainsail on my new Hobie T2 occasionally jumps out of the mast track about six inches below the comp-tip to aluminum mast butt joint. When lowering the sail, it jams, and when I try to raise it from there it gets stuck and has to be manually re-inserted. Is there a way to prevent it from leaving the track, such as putting a metal cap on the sail's tip where it enters (and leaves) the track? |

That's an odd one - does this happen when sailing - or only when raising? (when you raise the sail - it need to be hand feed into the track opening slot and go slowly) - If it gets jammed at the track opening and you yank on the halyard it'll do some damage. Use some dry lube on the luff rope to help slide easier. Have your dealer help you out directly - and maybe even send the sail into the factory for a repair if needed. |

It never happens when raising the sail, only when lowering it. When it gets stuck on the butt joint, and I raise it to free the jam, it pulls the last few inches of the sail out of the track. This has happened twice in the last couple of months. My thought is that the plastic guide on the comp-tip is not rigid enough to ensure the sail doesn't hang up on the joint, and doesn't keep it in track under that condition. Dry lube helps it to avoid the initial hang up, but I think it would also make it easier to jump the track. |
