I recently swapped out a cross bar on my Trailex trailer. The trailer is originally from the 80's but I updated and added double stack racks about 20 years ago. What I found indispensable while doing the job was a Bernzomatic TS4000KC torch. I had to remove twenty or thirty nuts and I didn't snap any bolts. Heating about 20 seconds on good condition nuts did the job. Severe cases took around 40-50 seconds. I was even able to remove one nut that was half corroded away preserving the bolt. The galvanic corrosion between the steel nuts and bolts and the aluminum trailer is always an issue on these trailers. I did run a die over the T bolts and a tap through the nuts before reassembly to remove any corrosion. I was able to reuse all the bolts and most of the nuts. While doing the job I noticed my leaf spring bushings were worn out. I ordered new ones from Trailex and I will be installing them this weekend before heading to MWE next week. cheers Bill |
