Post subject:  H bar install on tandem Oasis

Hi,
Looking to install an H bar for the rear passenger on a 2016 tandem oasis mirage. My question is: If the forward mounting points aren't accessible to through bolt without a hatch and I use well nuts on the forward mounting points, will they be strong enough to hold the bar?

Thanks,Ed

I would be cautious about well nuts up front. If you are using it to pull yourself up... They would be heavily loaded and pulling in the direction of pulling out. Add another hatch maybe?

What about pop rivets?

How about pop rivets?

The kayak star type rivet has been used for many years for eyes and other attachments. They "pop" as a wider split "X" inside. They are best for "in shear" applications though.

Maybe make a bracket that wraps around the rail so some rivets can be in shear?

It's pretty easy to attach any 2 bolt mount with a threaded backing plate anywhere you desire on the hull with no need to be near any hatches or openings. You only need a couple washers and two pieces of fishing line.
It's super simple just drill two holes say in the gunwale to mount a cleat, fish the line into each hole and snag the line and direct it to the nearest opening. Now run the line thru the two threaded holes then tie the washers to the ends if the lines.
Now smear a blob of silicone on the inner surface of the plate, then pull the strings back thru the holes and pull the plate tight against the underside of the hull. If you hold one line tight you can snip the other one and thread a bolt onto the hole, tighten it then snip the other line and put a bolt in that one. Once the silicone sets up the plate shouldn't fall off too easily but it will of course be delicate ( the silicone doesn't hold all that well). It's all easily done and shouldn't take much longer than any other method.
Hope this helps

I just ended up using a pair of screw down gear tracs for the front and yak attack h bar adapters. Through bolted the back legs
