I’m looking at an ‘84 Holder 12 that looks to be in good shape except for a detached flotation block. There is an inspection port just forward of the mast, and when I opened it and reached inside the loose block was obvious. It is dry (not waterlogged) but I don’t know where the block should sit or what the layout is for any other blocks. (I couldn’t feel any others while reaching around through the port) Is this a common repair? What’s the best way to reattach the block? Does it provide any structural support? Pool noodles are not an option for me- I’d like the original block where it belongs. Thanks in advance for any advice |

They just drop into the hulls... loose is not a problem. |

The block is completely detached- so it would be rattling around in the hull unless I re-attach it or remove it entirely. Are there other blocks? Should I attempt to reattach it with expanding foam? Does it provide any structural support? |

As Matt said, the block just sits in the hull. It is not attached and does not provide structural support, it is just there in case the boat gets holed, it won't sink. The only time you would hear it banging around would be if you flip the boat over it may clunk against the hull. Otherwise, it just sits in there loose. sm |

Thanks for clarifying... although the block I held would certainly have banged around in the hull when under normal sailing conditions. Maybe it was only a partial block. In any case, thanks. |
