Hello Any chance to properly repair this ( see pictures ) ? Massimo, I'd sand off the damaged layers and the gelcoat around the area and bond new plies in. If it is helpful I could send pictures of the inside of the bow section of the Hobie 16 this weekend. I'll PM you my email address. |

Thanks Bryan any previous experience with this damage is pretty much welcome ! I'm going to sand out the damaged part and rebuilt the area ( layers and resin) the question is : this repaired area not anymore being part of the hull structure would be strong enough ? I just want to make sure that this repair could make me comfortable enough to sail any condition without having the must on my head The alternative unfortunately is to get 2 brand new hulls ( I can't change just one because the old will be heavier than the new ) |

Here's a previous thread on this type of repair -- https://www.hobie.com/forums/viewtopic. ... ir#p123619 Notice the advice to take the new fiberglass back 6 - 8 inches (15 - 20 centimeters). Personally I'd go back a 12 inches (30 centimeters) just to be safe for my longest piece of fiberglass. Carefully done and thick enough repair should be as strong as original. Thanks Jim, It looks like this repair is possible, Good to know, to me it was a big question mark considering that critical part of the Hull Will see if it wiil be strong enough Massimo |
