I keep looking at this and really can't find any reason this comp tip repair would not work other than ????

Mast is from an '84 16 that is actually in decent shape. Probably because it was never sailed after the repair.
Purchased the boat and trailer cheap about a week ago. Will be on the water this weekend (with a different mast).

Man no way... H16 masts are everywhere. You need a new/used one. No way thats going to hold, unless the wind is less than 5 mph.... Should be able to get a usable mast for like $100 or so. If you do try it, have a good attitude, be safe, expect a spectacular failure and most of all film and share it!

The 84 is one my girlfriend brought home. I was thinking something else when she said she "wanted to get a cat". I have a 77 that is going to get some deck repairs this fall and a jib traveler upgrade.

Had the 84 out and she sails nice. Noticable lighter but like to stuff the bows more than my 77. 77 has massive mast rake which may make the difference.
