I think that the only fix for this is to replace the comp tip (fiberglass portion). Not really familiar with the Holder but I recently purchased a Hobie 16 with a broken off comp tip that they had tried (unsuccessfully) to attach using pipes and ecpanting foam on the inside and pieces of aluminum screwed to the outside. Nothing was good about this "fix". There are documents and posts about comp tip replacement on here if you do a search or if someone could share links. It does not look like a horrible project to complete. Mike |

No CompTips are available from Hobie for the Holder / Hobie One in many years. Repair or find a replacement mast from another boat would be the option. |

TY guys, I'm pretty sure I cant find another mast or just the comp section so we will try a repair. My initial idea is to remove all the foam from the aluminum side and try to mold anew fiberglass insert to the broken part, making it extra thick and bond it in with new 2 part foam. |

Hi FLMike123, I realize it's been many months since your last post. But I have the exact same problem. (But it was snow-load instead of a tree that broke my Hobie Holder 14 Comptip at the mast joint.) I can confirm your statement that finding a replacement is never going to happen. I sure am curious to how your repair went. Did it work? Any tips? ie what you would do differently? Thanks in advance, CaryChildress |
