| Post subject: | Hobie Wave mast anchoring |
Hi, new to sailing, so my terminology may be off. My wave right side bow mast anchor screw broke in the insert. Tried to back it out with no luck. Then tried to drill out and tap for new screw. I Broke the insert while trying to tap. My question is, how much would I need to drill down to get into the open area of the hull to insert a hollow wall anchor? It appears to be about 3” of solid pvc/foam that they adhered to (what I assume) is the hollow portion of the hull. Does anyone have any actual assembly drawing of the front of the hull? And has anyone had this happen and how did you fix. Thinking of making a SS saddle over the top of the hull if my anchor theory doesn’t work. |

The best option is the strap over the bow. We had a kit for that at a time when inserts were aluminum and would corrode within the plastic. The strap held the insert in place, but could also become the tang connection if mounted higher and you could shackle the bridle wire directly to it. Prototype versions of the Wave had that sort of tang connection. Hobie does not have these kits anymore, so this would be DIY. https://media.hobie.com/item_attachments/38120201z52.pdf |
