Post subject:  ADJUSTING UPPER RUDDER CASTING

Does anyone know how to adjust the upper rudder tiller casting cam stop plate on a Hobie 16? I am guessing you put the rudder down and slid it forward as far as it will go. I have the Delrin Screw in as far as it will go and the rudders are still popping up. The Delrin screws work freely and go to the end of the threaded part of the lower rudder casting. The springs are good and the plunger and cams have been replaced.

Cam plates are to be pushed under the cam as far as possible while holding the rudder in the full down position. Too far in and the cam may not lock correctly, so a balance. Check the cam when locked down (by itself) and mark something you can see (under the tiller arm area) to show full lock. Do the cam plate adjustments and check the cams locked position again.
