I have a set of hulls that need a bottom job. 1. Do I use that fiberglass matting or the woven cloth I can see the woven cloth, and on the starboard side, there is a crack, hence the repair. on the port side, I can see the woven, but its water tight. 2. should I do them both, or just fix the crack so I can start sailing again? Thanks, I'll have more questions later |

i just go done redoing my 82'h16 and i used both on the hulls. by the way since you already got the boat upside down you might as well do both hulls and do them good so you wont have to do it again the woven stuff id easier to work and layer with but it is not as good for filling dents and such the mat tears easily if you are making thin strips and is harder to layer but is stronger for dents and such make sure you put news paper on the hulls so you dont get drips everywere if you have to layer i suggest starting with skinny pieces and going up to wider ones as you put each layer i used 4 layers on my starboard hull but that was about an 8th inch deep to bring it level so whatever and make sure you dont put to much hardener or your bucket will turn into an anchor in about 5 minutes oh and another thing after you lay the glass and sand it smooth i suggest putting marine-tex over it. they sell this ace-hardware andother places. mine turned out really nice and clean |

If you send your private email address to I can send you a lot of info and photos which may be helpful. If you can attach some photos of the crack I might be able to offer more on that part of the fix also. |
I have to do mine this weekend. Any tips or tricks? How did your repair go?
It is going/went pretty okay. It's time consuming, in the fact of fix, wait, sand sand sand, fix wait sand sand sand. but mine had a lot more damage that just rebuilding. I had a crack repair as well. I'll hopefully finish tomorrow am, then sail tomorrow pm. we'll see. I may be too optimistic. Rick from midwinters west has A TON of advice and pics, my pics pretty much mirror his, but when you get to the formula 27 step, work quick, that stuff sets up fast. |
