Post subject: | Penetrol vs. Wax |
This afternoon on our "new to us" '87 H17, I applied a test patch of Penetrol and West Marine's Color Restorer Wax. The Penetrol darkened the faded, blotchy gelcoat, but provided no luster, which inadvertantly caused the blotchiness to become more noticeable. The compound & wax combo gave the faded blue finish a much more even tone, and finished with a nice soft sheen. I used a 9.6V random orbital buffer to apply the wax. We'll see how long the sheen lasts. It's also much more difficult to get the wax out of the non-skid than the Penetrol. The Penetrol did make all of the aluminum look like new. Make sure you wear gloves when using the Penetrol too. To sum up, neither came close to the original turquoise blue color under the registration sticker, but compared to the original whitish-blue, it's a big improvement. I don't want to be embarrassed when we head out to Woodward Reservoir. Later, Chris |

Post subject: | "Brasso" |
I used Brasso on my faded out yellow hull. Then put a couple of coats of wax. Turned out great. It brought that deep yellow back to the surface. |
