My new to me '02 has a front tramp which seems severely damaged by UV. It is very stretched out and the mesh is soft and fuzzy. Is this the sign that it is dead? Do I have to have a front tramp? I think I would just as soon take it off and not replace it. Thanks |

I don't think structurally you need it. If it looks like you would go thru it if you stepped on it, then probably safer to just toss it. From what I have read folks serious about getting max performance out of these remove the forward tramp and wings, what they refer to as 'resort gear'. |

Well! Alrighty then; today the tramp gave way, my foot went right through it. How much weight will a new Hobie tramp support? Matt? edit: I have ordered the new Hobie tramp from my local dealer but still wonder how much it can hold, is it intended for walking on? |

... because it holds me. Whether I should or not, I walk on the front tramp when I am messing with the boat (though not when sailing it, as both bows would go under and I would be swimming). I am about 270, and it seems to hold me without any drama. k |

I considered the Amish mesh tramp at about $250, the Murrays mesh tramp at about $300 but went with the Hobie tramp at $592 because of the welded construction. Also only the Hobie tramp is the open mesh material which allows so much air and water through, the last thing I need is the front of the boat to start flying! I am not happy about the price but stitching is what usually dies first from UV so the welded construction should be a much better product. |

I installed my tramp today and it was an incredible experience. 10 minutes to remove the old tramp and replace with the new tramp, another 10 minutes to lace and I was done, what a wonderfully well thought out boat. |
