I believe it's mounted on the front crossbar, not the back one, so rudder clearance isn't an issue. The Hobie catalog shows a motor mount for the Wave, but I think it'll work on the Getaway too. I think the crossbars are very similar in cross-section. It folds sideways, causing the motor shaft to be parallel to the crossbar, and tucks in underneath.

I can see where it might be useful, but in no-wind situations, I've sculled where I needed to go by cranking the rudders back and forth. It's not overwhelmingly fun, but it can get you where you need to go. Also, kicking the rudders up a little gives you better thrust.

IS THERE A MOTOR MOUNT FOR THE GETAWAY? IF SO DOES ANYONE HAVE ONE AND HOW WELL DOES IT WORK? HOW DOES THE MOTOR STORE TO BE CLEAR OF THE RUDDER? THANKS STEVE

There is a motor mount for the rear of the boat. It rivets on the rear crossbar and retracts up. Price is $375.00. Call me at 661 3229178 to order. Dave

Post subject:	Getaway Motor mount Cheata
I bought a Cheata motor mount and it works great for my 2.5 Mercury. I have used it extensively and a friend has one as well and we are intending to do some long weekend cruising, with the knowledge we can get somewhere fast when the storms come in. My friend Gene has a 4 HP and setup up correctly, with crew and load balanced it flies, as mine does. I GPS'd mine at 3/4 throttle and got 7.10 max MPH on a clear day.

Hudsondude - Let me know a little more about your Cheata motor mount, and where you place the fuel tank, etc. I have a getaway and a motor would be helpful now and again.

Mattnaylor, I have a 2.5 Mercury with built in tank, and carry spare 2 gallon jug on front tramp with fire extinguisher. The motor mount is offset just a bit starboard and motor is tight in a forward direction using rudders for steering. I offset the mount so I can raise and lower with sails centered. I use the motor now all the time getting out of public ramp areas and marinas, as well as the dull drumbs. I find the Cheata mount is the best investment you can make when using a motor and have absolutely no problems with it in almost a year of use. Many canoe motor mounts will fit across either end of the hulls. They are lighter, more portable and only cost $100 for the good ones.
