Heres some pics from sailing at the beach, if the link works.
Note how I got the boat slanted forward for setting up the mast. This causes the mast to lean forward and stay while I clip in the forstay. Also, I use a quick release pin to hold the forstay in place ALONG WITH an actual clevis pin thingy. The quick release pin is really nice to hold the forstay when setting the mast up, but you have to use an actual pin as well, for safety.

The boat is an 08, I just got it at the start of this summer. It is heavy, I'm in pretty good shape, and can pull it around, but wouldn't wanna go to far with it. When I launch the boat I drive onto the beach parallel to the water, then pull the boat off the trailer, straight back. Then, all I have to do is spin the boat 90 degrees so its facing the water.

I sailed a 470 (15 foot monohull) for 5 years from the same spot. the 470 weighs 260 (i think) pounds, the getaway, 400. The getaway, even tho much heavier, is tremendously easier to move around the beach, because it has alot of places to grab from, i.e., the front cross bar.
Also, if you have to pull it in a straight line, it moves easy, turning it on the sand is alot harder.
With two average strength people on it, it moves on the beach pretty easy. I installed a winch on the trailer to pull it up also.

Unfortunatly, most people I assume don't have the luxery of driving on the beach to the waters edge.

I am in Milwaukee and usually launch out of MicKinley Marina but would love a place to pull up onto the beach. Where did you launch from?

The photos were taken at my usually launching spot, Sheboygan South Beach. That would be quite a far drive for you....
Notice the Sheboygan Power Plant in the back ground? Thats what you see when you drive past Sheboygan on I-43

Very nice pix. this was my 2nd season with an 03
getaway, that fortunately came with beach wheels,
which may be expensive, but I leave the boat on them
with mast up at the YC. they make single handing easier.
I also got EZ stepper III this spring and find that works well
but may take a little longer, being careful and doing it alone,
I put one end of mast on a 6 ft ladder, keep boat tied down to trailer
and it works well, happy sailing, doug

Nice to see pics of people enjoying these boats. Thanks for posting.

I noted the trailer is a Karavan. Just a few days ago I purchased a small Karavan bunk trailer from a dealer here in town (they don't sell boats of the sail variety though :cry: ) and ordered the kit to convert it to a cat trailer directly from Karavan http://karavantrailers.com. Basically making the same setup you have, although I suspect your trailer is the next size up? Mine is a 46-1250 (46" between fenders, 1250lb rated). I am just curious as to the model in case I decide to get a Getaway someday when kids get older.

What I really liked about yours is the decking runners you added. How did you do that, and what did you use for material? Was this a kit as well? I could not locate it on the Karavan online catalog.

im not sure which trailer i have, but i will check. All of the hardwear on the trailer was purchased at a local outdoors store. The main deck actually an ATV ramp for the back of a pickup bed. It happend to fit lengthwise and widthwise perfectly. It was a tri-fold model made of aluminum, and I cut off the hinges and bolted it to the frame. Its really nice having a space to strap down a cooler and camping chairs.

The red toolbox is just a red metel toolbox to keep small parts, and on the front, i have plastic walkways. If i remember correctly the name of the product was "THE PLANK." It makes it really nice for retrieving the boat at a boat launch, because you can just walk down the gooseneck of the trailer.

O, and I added a bunk-guide-on kit to help make retrievel at the boat launch easier. Ya the entire trailer is pretty well pimped out,next im gunna add spinner wheels and underglow...

Noticed you added even more pics. Nice. I especially took note of the detailed pics of your trailer setup. Turns out your trailer is the same as mine, w/ 8" wheels instead of 12". Nice thanks for the post. Yes, I tried getting some pictures of the trailer to show what I added. Hehe the trailer is alittle flashy but I dont care, it gets the job done.

My goal was to make it easier and faster for set up and take down. I forgot to take a picture of the other side of the straps. The one side I bolted the ratchets to the trailer so I wouldnt have to fuss with ratchets, and the other side has jumbo stainless caribiner clips that clip into eye bolts on the other crossbars. This makes strapping and unstrapping really fast, just release the ratchet and unclip the strap. Without having the clips to hold the other end of the strap it would take two people to strap it down, one person to hold the end of the strap and one to ratchet it.
