Post subject:  Hull Flying 101
Hello all.
I purchased a 2004 Getaway in Aug. and absolutely love it! I have been sailing it on a lake here in Nova Scotia, Canada, near Halifax and am starting to feel pretty proficient. I'm at the point now where I can get the hull flying with me out on the trap and hiked out on the wing. What A Rush!. My problem is that if I keep it up for too long, the boat decelerates to a crawl and nearly stops! Is this normal? If not, What am I doing wrong?

If you keep the hull 1'-2' off the water you should be able to keep your speed up but when you start flying a hull really high is when you start losing speed. The higher it gets the slower you end up going, but that's the fun of it when you get to that balance point and the boat is in a complete stall. How high can you go...

your rudders quit working because they are now parallel to the surface of the water and the hull is bogged down on it's side. Wee Haa :D
