Only had the boat for the end of this past season but want to get a motor for next year. For those of you with motors, do you need to register the boat once it has a motor? does it matter whether it's electric or gas regarding registration? Which is easier, gas or electric? Pro's and con's one way or the other.... I'm thinking gas powered would probably be best so there would be not wires or batteries to deal with. What's a good motor to use with the gas tank as part of the motor? |

Hey, here is a link to CT's boat registration requirements: http://www.ct.gov/dmv/cwp/view.asp?a=817&q=310886&dmvPNavCtr=|#44930 Basically, all boats with a motor, and all boats over 19.5' need to be registered in your state. So until you get a motor, you're fine unless you have a 20' or 21' Hobie. |

I have a Honda 2HP 4-stroke on my 21SE. It works great with exception of over 20 mph winds as it seems to not be able to push the boat into the wind and to the boat ramp. The Honda is the lightest motor made and works flawlessly. There are many purist that do not want to put a stinkpot on their sail boat, but to me I am able to sail much more because I can get away from the boat ramp, rig on the water in anything less than 10 mph, get back to shore when winds completely die and darkness is near, and get the boat to the ramp between all the drunken motorboaters with ease. I only use it probably less than 5-10 minutes each outing. I highly recommend it. I also have a homemade motor mount that works great. I need to take better pictures for anyone that wants to build their own. |

I also have a Honda 2hp outboard on my Getaway. I sail out of a channel that is about 50 feet wide so I need the motor. It works great. I use the motor mount out of the Hobie catalog. It's definitely a profitable product;) |
