Post subject:  Docking or Mooring a Getaway

Newbie questions... I just picked up my new getaway last week.

I live on a lake and was wondering if i can put the getaway on the dock. If so, what is the best place to tie docklines to the getaway... the wings?

If i put the boat on a mooring are there any tricks connecting to the mooring?

Post subject:  Mooring oten discussed - seldom recommended

The algae and slime that build up on a moored boat are damaging to the hull and, of course, slow you down. It builds up VERY quickly. I would not moor unless you want to find a compatible "Bottom Paint" and then spend up to $125 a gallon for the stuff. I'm thinking a teflon based paint possibly.
Overall, I would not moor it.

By "docking it" do you mean "up on the dock" or next to the dock? Again if it is in the water for and extended period, not recommended. Check out JaimeZX's posts with photos of clever docking options.

Could you build a "float" alongside the dock to so you would "dock" the float and store the boat up on it? Again I think that Jaime had something like this posted.

Good luck and happy sails!!

Ha! I'm famous. :?

Anyway, I pulled the boat up on 4x4s on a floating dock.

Hope that helps!

I have a picture of my solution. I also live on a lake and didn't want it to be in the water all the time due to the constant motion of the boat - loosens and wears over time. I have a picture I could post if someone could tell me how to post pictures on here.

Posting Pictures.

You have to have the picture hosted somewhere. Use the "Img" button, fill in the URL of the image, then close with the "Img" buttom again.

Thanks for the pictures. Just wondering how you pull your boat up on the boards. Can you do it by yourself?
Thanks
Eric

Just remember to tension your standing rigging if you are going to leave your boat on the floating dock for any length of time. The dock will still float on the waves and will still bang your rigging around. But, this is a very good solution for getting the boat out of the water.
