Anybody come up with a slick cupholders for Getaways? That's something Hobie should design into the Getaway. Any suggestions?
Bob.

My son and I use these rubber rings with carabeaners (sp?) on them they slip over the end of bottle and you hook them where ever. Seems to work well. ou can get them at sporting good stores and I've seen them at other stores as well.

I found some clamp on pole mount cup holders at Wal-Mart that work well and I fit them to the the wing braces. One on each side. Very durable and removable.

I use the thing at the end of my arm!!! Its called a hand. LOL.. Had to do it! I just tuck it under the hiking straps or back into the cooler. If the air is honking you won't have the time to drink anything anyhow. Too much fun to be had. There are hundreds of options out there. Go to a bike store and buy a bottle holder for a bike and drill and tap into whatever you want. Use your imagination.... Good Luck!

On my old H16 I used some suction cup holders. They had a large suction cup on teh bottom and would fit nicly around a beer/soda can and go about halfway up the can. I would attache them to my paddle I had woven through teh tramp lacing. If you have a smooth part on your hulls they would hold there. I would also make a bottle noose and hang them from the boom. Since you don't have a boom that would be difficult.

I would avoid drilling and tapping into the boat. Just asking for one more place for corrosion to spring up.

11 years later I have the same question. Am searching for a set up cup holders for the Getaway and will probably end up engineering my own from a modified bicycle bottle holder. (I plan on using tall cups... like a 20 or 30 ounce Yeti Growler.)

Before I get started does anyone have prior ideas to share?

Thanks!

I've been thinking of getting two of these for my T2. Anyone try them?

So I ended up installing a pair of cup holders I found on Amazon.

Here's a picture of the "installation"

They attach to the wing posts via velcro. I was concerned that this wouldn't be strong enough, but the velcro holds these in place without any movement around or down the post.

Here's a link to the ones I bought:

They were $15 for a pair. I'll probably buy a second pair to keep in my boat box for when we have guests.

PS: I'll update this thread in a few months with a report on how well these have held up.

Go to ebay and look for "Ronstan Drink Holder"...they attach with velcro. I'd attach them to the side of the wing seats where they will be handy. The glue will eventually stop holding, but then just remove and apply new velcro tape.

I've found that a lot of stuff for bicycles can be modified to work with boats--at least my boats.

None of the store bought cup holders have stood up to the abuse of people getting in out of the boat, slipping on, rubbing against etc. So we made our own.... They have lasted years now. I bought a 1.25" schedule 40 pvc and a 4" schedule 40 pvc, then painted both jet black to match the getaway wing seat hardware. Cut the 1.25" pipe into 4 pieces, 1 for each corner of the wing seats. Basically, the 4" pvc is where your beverage will sit. Use stainless steel bolts to attach the 4" pvc to the 1.25" pvc then use heavy duty zip ties to secure the 1.25"pvc to the wing seat uprights. This way you won't have to worry about drilling into the getaway. (Hint: the 1.25" pvc also serves as a fishing rod holder... We've caught spanish maceral with these while trolling.). See pics below.

Great job! Custom beats production 9 times out of 10.
