Hi we are proud new owners of a hobie getaway, and while our first sail was amazing we could not cleat the main sheet. Everytime we try to pull up the sheet to cleet, the block would angle up as well. It seems as though if the block stayed angle down we would be able to cleet no problem any tips for new comers to the hobie family, or any pictures on how it should look rigged up on the boat. Thanks, Al |

The jaw angle is adjustable. This is covered in the link here: http://www.hobiecat.com/support/pdfs/getawaymanual_a1.pdf |

Just make sure you don't angle it down too much, because then it'll be difficult to uncleat, which can lead to a capsize when sailing in high winds (I rarely cleat it over 15 knots)..... Also, I never cleat it when I am flying a hull, as a small gust can be faster than your reaction time to uncleat the sheet. Guillermo |

I suggest you upgrade to a Harken block system. Harken blocks are standard on the Hobie 16. The Getaway standard blocks are fine for the highly experience cat sailor. The Harken upgrade provides a signficant increase in release reliability and speed for the new cat sailor. Releasing the main sheet while on the wings is somewhat more difficult than a release while sitting on a hull (practice and figure out the difference). Gloves help a great deal in holding on to an uncleated main in high wind. Finally replace the main sheet often as release is harder with a worn sheet. |
