Hi there all,

I have been sailing most of my life on and off and am interested in getting back into it next summer, so I have all winter to think about it.

My most recent boat was a Playcat that Nacra now put out here in Australia.

Before that I had a Nacra 4.5, and A-class, Paper Tiger and also Nacra 5.8's.

I have two boys that are 6 and 3 and would love to teach them the thrill of sailing. I have look at many boats and I think the Getaway is a fine choice.

Do they race them in Australia? I can't seem to too much info on them.

There is also a very dry second hand market.

Well welcome aboard. Not too many of us cobbers :) here but you'll find this a fantastic place for info. I was in the same boat (so to speak) as you. Had a sabot, paper tiger and H14 in an earlier life. Wanted to get back into it and settled on a second hand getaway about 12 months ago now. They are an ideal family boat.
Agree it's hard to find a second hand one, and the new ones seem expensive, especially now relative to the currency exchange rate. Perhaps they'll come down a bit.
I've never seen another one on the water in NSW (Jervis Bay/Kiola), but there is a bloke who posts here regularly from Tassie who has had some success in a getaway against H16s.
Good luck with your search. Your boys are at a good age for it. They'll love it.
