Post subject:  Maintenance Question

We've always replaced our shrouds every 2 years but really nothing else.

I was wondering if some of the other standing rigging should be replaced?
Forestay and associated hardware? (i think the forestay is sold as a unit with all hardware attached?)
Furler?
Bridle Bow tangs? Bridle Wires?
The adjustment pieces that attach to the chainplates?
Mast Tang? - We've replaced this once already because we noticed the hole elongating should this happen? Is our rig too tight? We sail in almost any wind so that could be a factor.

Wow... every two years is good!

The forestay and bridles are next... The furler should last near the life of the boat... maybe some maintenance to keep the furler operating properly, but failure is extremely rare. The bridle tangs would show wear, so keep an eye on them and other attachment hardware.

I suspect that the mast tang may have worn for either prolonged mast up storage or mooring? Constant movement of the parts will do that. Restrain the mast from rotation during storage.

never stored the boat with the mast up....I'm guessing excessive wear on the tang could be due to those light wind days on Narragansett Bay combined with pesky power boat wakes. There were days with some pretty violent mast movement due to excessive boat wake and light wind.

We use the boat nearly every single day in the summer so it gets a lot of use.

It sure was a pain to replace that mast tang...there's a backing plate in there that's an absolute nightmare to line up.
