| Post subject: | Solo Setup Geezer Getaway Gadgets |
Hello Group! I'm a somewhat gimpy kneed late 50's guy who is planning a purchase of a Getaway. I've taken and completed a beginners sailing course and had an absolute blast with a Wave at a resort. My family now consists of a somewhat frail 95 lb wife and a somewhat rambunctious 135 lb Newf (these things are drool proof, aren't they?) neither of which are gonna be much help. I'm going to need the ability to trailer, untrailer, step, unstep, and right the beast on my own. Can anyone suggest a comprehensive list of gadgets/accessories needed to render the non-sailing aspects of Getaway ownership a pleasure rather than a PITA? Jack |

Get a copy of the Hobie Parts Catalog. There are mast stepping systems, righting systems, water bags, trailers and dollies listed that will do what you want. I added a small 12 volt winch to my trailer; I extended the remote cable an extra 15 feet. I hook the winch to the front stay, jump up on the back of the tramp and lift the mast by hand the first two feet, and then I let the winch take over while I stabilize the mast. This approach allows me to set the boat up by myself. Sounds a little clunky, but it works great! |

I have seen you pictures on the web. Do yo ustill use EZ Step or just attach the cable to the forstay? What do you do to prevent mast rotation? Can you elaborate more on stepping the mast down? When does the mast have to be rotated back to the side position? At the very beginning or half way down? |
