i grew up racing with my mom and always going out on our friend's hobie, now that i am in the navy i am thinking about investing in a getaway, any tips on buying one so that i don't get ripped off would be greatly appreciated. also if anyone has any experience sailing one in the chesapeake bay area or know of a better area in the dc metro vacinity let me know.

There is a good Hobie dealer out of Woodbridge, VA and Annapolis, MD: Backyard boats. Stop by one of thier stores to check out a Getaway and see if it is something you would like. Then decide if you want new or used.

I sail my H18 out os Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, MD. I have found the the bay is absolutley awful for cat sailing in the summer off of Annapolis. There just isn't reliable enough wind. Spring and fall are pretty good with wind around 12 kts most of the time.

This summer I am going to try weekend trips to the coast to see if the wind out there is better.

If you want to go for a sail or have any more questions please feel free to contact me:
