Post subject:  Jib track?

I'm a fairly new sailor, but it seems to me that the jib cleat on the getaway (2008) is mounted too centered to angle the jib out wide (it tends to luff easily on a broad reach and run). Do other people feel this way or am I sailing incorrectly? Or is a run just so slow that it is rarely utilized?

What have people done to fix this?

I am considering either:
(1) mounting adjustable jib tracks on each side of the front crossbar
(2) mounting pulleys on each side of the front crossbar or even wing bars to run the jib sheet through from the cleat. On a run this would allow a better angle of the jib out wide, but close hauled would require tensioning both ends of the jib sheet to center the jib.

Any thoughts?

You can get the 16 jib tracks and jib cars.

The Getaway is designed to be simple and less expensive by eliminating unnecessary equipment. It works well as is. I suspect you are sailing too deep and covering the jib with the main. Cats like to sail higher and faster, which will help keep the jib full. You can add a track or what is called a "barber hauler" to pull the jib outboard for sailing angles that are low and slow.
