Hi, this morning, when we took of the mast before an arriving storm, the mast fail and the top Bouy together with the main sail pulley fail and seems to be broken. See attached pictures. Any way to fix that? thanks, Shahar [img][C:\Users\seytan\Downloads\20131210_082341.jpg][/img] |

You can not link to image files on your personal computer. They must be uploaded and hosted on the web somewhere public. Image FAQ: http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=8574 You can replace the mast upper section CompTip. Without seeing images, I can't see how much damage to the top there is. |

That looks repairable. Minimal fiberglass damage. The casting broke off. You need to get all of the casting out of the tip. Then see about damage to the fiberglass. The casting inserts quite a ways into the tip and would be supported by sealant and rivets. |

Use a hack saw blade to cut from the inside out... without cutting the tip of course. May have to cut out a section to collapse and pull out. |

Correct number. "Rivets" are not included. You need (2) 8010121 RIVET POP 3/16x5/8 PH-SS |

Hi, When I looked again into the mast, I saw that the hook (that holds the sail after lifting it) is also being hold to the mast head, so I guess I need to take its rivets out as well in order to pull the head out. Are those similar to the ones you mentioned above? I didn't see any picture of the mast head in any of the sites that are selling it, but I suppose it is not coming with the sheave and its parts, I can transfer those from the broken head. right? thanks, Shahar |

Similar thing happened to my Getaway when boat blew over. I was able to repair it by making a mold of inside mast, wrapping several layers of glass around it. while still not hardened I slid it inside mast and epoxied broken piece back in place, with West and structural fibers. leaving enough room for mast head. Has held up for several years now. most of force is in compression. I have a new still in wrapper comp-tip for a Getaway if you need it. I am in Long island NY Good luck, doug |

thanks Doug, I don't think I need to replace the entire comptip, but only the mast head, it is a part that cost 75$, not so bad. What I understood from you is that you had put back the broken mast head with a lot of eppoxy around to glue it and didn't take the broken part from the mast. I thought about it, also because the forces are mostly downwards and should hold the head, however if possible I'll try to do it the right way and replace the entire mast head. thanks, Shahar |

I think that my comptip broke just below the masthead on mine. so the mast head was reusable. I did have to remove it during the repair. I believe that halyard catch is pop riveted through comptip and into mast head that extends inside comptip. hopefully you won't need whole new comptip, which I got incase repair didn't work out.. |
