I have a Hobie Getaway on a lift on the gulf coast of Florida.
I am trying to protect the tramps from the harmful UV rays.
I am also trying to stay with a reasonable budget.
I have tried tarps in various forms and found them wanting as the wind will dislodge them and try to turn the boat over.
I have considered just leaving the covers off and purchasing tramps as needed.
please let me know if you have any ideas
thanks
Jerry

The tramp on my Hobie 14T is stored in the open at Clearwater Beach and shows no ill effects from UV degradation. If the material is right, exposure to sunlight should be a minor concern.

Use a spray-on UV protectant on your hulls and tramp and comp tip. I apply it once or twice a year. 303 is good stuff, I am sure there are others.

I've had my Getaway here in Clermont (just west of Orlando) for 11 years now stored on the trailer next to my house. I find that the Florida sun does a number on the tramps. I replaced my tramps for the second time last year. I've tried covering them with tarps or the Hobie cover and in our Florida climate that has just created a mildew heaven. So this summer, because the weather here from June through September is either no wind or lots of wind with lightning, I've taken the tramps and wing covers completely off of the boat. I know that we are the complete opposite of the rest of the U.S. where sailors are getting in every bit of sailing that they can in the summer. But our best sailing weather is from October through May - and I'll take that trade off!

And because my Wave is so much easier to rig by myself, on that rare summer day where the weather does not include thunderstorms, I'll jump out onto the lake with that.

I went through my front tramp last weekend standing on it. Rotten from the sun. Protect if you can & its not too much of a pain.
