I have a 2003 Getaway and the comp tip has developed cracks around the joint. Hobie Rep - - any suggestions? |

I would like to know the answer to this as well. I have a 2013 Getaway and my comptip is also starting to show cracks right at the base ( where it connects to aluminum mast). |

http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=44580&p=188960&hilit=CompTip+chip#p188960 Quote: The mast should be glued. The movement of the CompTip in the extrusion will be more pronounced when using the Trapeze system. This will chip and damage the CompTip at the connection point.

Hi Matt, Thanks for your response, although, the comp tip is glue and the seal is tight. Also, I do not use the trapeze. Frank |

Some vintages of the CompTip have a joint that is very flush with the aluminum. Pressure from the mast bending can chip the CompTips gelcoat. It's cosmetic, Some material around the joint could be removed (ground off the CompTip to prevent the compression. Or re-seat the tip not fully compressed against the aluminum. Older and newer CompTips have a radius shape at the joint. |
