Does anyone have handy the distance from the top to the tang to be installed for the spin package? I'm curious as I'm planning on fitting my Getaway with a symmetric spin, but want to put the mast tang in the right place in case I decide to add the sprit.

Why?

Unless it is blowing 25+ you won't ever sail low and slow enough to use a symmetrical sail. Symmetric sails do not perform well on fast light boats.

There is a thread on installing the spinnaker kit on a Getaway: http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=42068

The dimension you are looking for is there.

Cheers,
Randy

Actually, I will sail low and slow enough. Where I sail it is typically blowing 15-25 kts and my typical course is wind-lee. I should also mention the 2.5 kt current, as well. I mounted (for a while) a symmetric spin on my much faster than Getaway F24 trimaran and it worked pretty well; granted the apparent wind moved forward when the boat was going downwind, but that just let me sail deeper. There was a nice sweet spot and gybing a symmetric is much less drama than gybing an asymmetric. Certainly an asymmetric would be the way to go if I were to want to race seriously, but I'm more interested in keeping the boat upright and going fast(er) than no spin at all. The reason I want to know the right dimension to put the tang is in case I decide later to mount an asymmetric. I like experimenting with boats and sailplans (since I make my own sails). Thanks for the link.
