Put together this video for my family and friends, pieced together from footage grabbed this September just north of Traverse City on the west arm of Traverse Bay.

Overly long and featuring cheesy music and transitions, but I enjoy looking at this stuff more and more as the weather turns cold. You can always skip around of course - the first 3/4s is nice weather sailing, the last 1/4 or so is full foulie weather.

The only public place I've seen to beach on Power island is a very rocky shoreline. Where is that nice sandy spot you pulled up on located?

Hi Dave,

I'm not sure how to embed pictures into these posts, or I'd put up a map.

But basically, there are sandy spots just north of the Power Island dock on the west side of the island. If you think of the island as roughly diamond shaped, with the long axis running NE to SW, that would be just north of the west "point".

There is also a nice spit I like just on that west point as well, though it might be a mix of small rock and sand. Since the boat is not fiberglass, I don't worry about the rounded pebble beaches very much.

For that matter I also like beaching at the very NE tip of the diamond - which I gather used to be a separate island. That "beach" is actually a shellmound, which is pretty trippy.

Happy Sailing!
