We own a Getaway which we usually sail in SE MA and Narragansett. We were on vacation in OBX, and Norbanks had already put the Wetas away for the season. It was blowing 13-16kts, so we went for a sail. Notice their custom made sails have no adjustment points in the clew. Tips and technique critiques are appreciated... https://youtu.be/ALuABJhYHEI Skip ahead to ~2:30 if you're looking for the exciting part! |

Looks fun. I'm gonna bring my H18 one of these years. We go to OBX every summer, but I'm always a little concerned to sail bc depths in the sound go from 4' to 10" pretty quick. Any issues hitting bottom? Where were you? |

Justin, You should try to be there the second weekend in June and sail in the Duck Cup Regatta. It is always a lot of fun. It is two days of distance racing. Plenty of people sail cats with boards there. The water is shallow for quite a ways out, but it deepens up. You can also get good advice from the Sailing Club as to what area of the sound to sail in and what to look for to avoid the shallow areas. The Currituck is basically not tidal, so the wind direction plays an important role in which end of the sound has deeper water. |

Thanks. We stay in Frisco, but I'll give it some thought for next summer. |

Any issues hitting bottom? Where were you? This is out of Norbanks Sailing on Currituck Sound (host of the Duck Cup, I believe...). The chart for Currituck looks a lot more consistent that does the one on Pamlico Sound near Frisco... |
