Post subject: | Adjusting Trapeze Lines |
I just added trapeze lines to my Getaway, I will be using the trapeze lines with the wings attached. (I know it is not suggested) I have shortened the adjustable rope as much as possible, but the lines still seem a little long. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how much did you cut off from the the lines, I am 5'11? I have a west marine in my area and I think that they have a tool to shorten the lines. Thanks for the advice, Mike |

I thought the lines were too SHORT to use with the wings? |

I can't speak for anyone else, but mine are too long. |

Yes, the trapeze wires would be longer for normal use. The wing seat is higher and therefore requires a shorter wire length. |

Matt, What how many inches should I shorten from the line so they are not so long? Is it better to shorten from the top or the bottom of the line? thanks, Mike |

Ahh I figured it would be too short becasue yu'd be standing out on the seat (further from the mast) |

How much shorter? I don't have that actual measurement because we don't make the wire fit for wing use. Just measure with the mast up from the spot you would be sitting on.... 32" up from the rail to the handle is our standard measurement. |

If anyone does the measurement that Matt suggested and calculates how much to shorten the trapeze for the wings, please post here or email me. I want to cut it before I step the mast this year. Matt said....."Just measure with the mast up from the spot you would be sitting on....32" up from the rail to the handle is our standard measurement" Thanks, Doug [email protected] |

Someone must - all the original product photos (the one with the family on the Getaway and the one with the couple on a nice reach) had and still have the wings and traps on both sides ![]() So do all the Getaway sequences in the video. Hobie should abandon this post-hoc non-support stuff and do whatever is necessary to support wings and trap use together. Mark |

The engineers will not condone it due to the wing telescope design. They are concerned about it retracting while in trap use. Yes, we have had (not on the product page any longer) some shots of trapeze from the wings, but do not make the wires to fit. |

The guys at Fogh marine in Toronto have the best setup. They sell the wires at the right length for using the wings and they also offer a adjustable setup for fine tuning while on the wire. Good price too. Highly recommend the adjusters. |

Engineers are concerned? Give me a break. These boats are not called suicide boats for nothing. Any engineers out there concerned about pitch-poling while on the wire? Get things changed please Matt. |

Yes, they need to be shortened. No it is not rocket-science. No, it is not tough to do. Including buying tools at Lowes, it might cost you $30. The telescoping wing thing is dependant upon a couple of cheap-o ball-lock pins. If you are conserned about them releasing, replace them with real clevis pins. Honestly, I don't quite understand the need for the traps with the wings on, but to each their own. It is more about fun than fuctionality and really that is what the Getaway is all about... FUN |
