Motor mount (my own design)

Ok, try Another Kieth inspired motor mount. I tweaked it a bit. I put a bottom plate on like Robert. I had to play around a lot with the spacer plates and make a wedge shape piece for on top not just to keep it right where I want (height & angle) but to give the plate a little better contact area on the crossbar. I bought all the components to create this mount (Except the wood) and decided not to add a motor to my Cat. If anyone is viewing this and considering making their own, I have all the supplies available at a forum discount

What motors would be most appropriate for this mount on a Hobie Getaway? I am leaning more towards an electric - was thinking the Torqueedo Travel 1103 CS would just bolt on.

Also, why use wood here - just easily available and works well-enough for the motor clamps?

The 2.3 Honda & Torqeedo are the most popular. Some use wood for the mounting board, some use a composite material. Lots of interesting variations here.

Ok, man things took forever to get from 80/20.

Can someone clarify this statement: “Only drill down through the top of the cross bar. Then drop a couple of bolts through and bolt it all together being careful not to torque the nut too tight as you could crush the rear crossbar.”

It looks like the bolt goes all the way through the crossbar in the photos?

Thanks! When removing the rivet holding the dead eye in, should I epoxy the hole so the crossbar is water tight? I wasn’t sure if that would make the rivet impossible to reinstall later if desired.

Oops, the dead-eye goes into the track part of the crossbar so no need for it to be water tight.

I need to get a motor now. Should I get a long shaft (29.5") or short shaft (24.6") or extra short shaft (20.7")? I have just ordered parts, so I want to get my motor coming soon.

Myself, I have the honda short shaft. 20" from the center of the prop up to to the top of the transom mount.

I have an epropulsion Spirit with a 24.6 inch shaft. I would not want to be any shorter as I can get cavitation if I don't watch where the load is on my boat. I do have a mount of my design which may have it higher than others but you can't use one too short. Too long you can live with.

shogun95, I just got a propulsion myself. Haven't tried it yet. What's your thoughts on it? If you could post a picture of how you mounted it, I would appreciate it.
