This topic has been posted many times in the past, but as far as I can tell, this has not been satisfied.

I just bought the spinnaker kit for the Getaway/16. The instructions I have seen are for the 16, and even those don't look up to date. Can we get a post from Hobie to confirm the following:

1. Position of the mast tang. (From the bottom of the mast I would guess since sail fits both boats and the two masts are dramatically different sizes.)

2. Position of the two sheet pulleys. I've seen them hooked to the shroud anchors, and hooked to the front cross beam.

I agree it would be great to get some official documentation from Hobie. While you are waiting on that, I can provide some information since I did this install earlier this year.

For #1, I used this info posted by RHoughVYC:

For #2, the pulleys go on the front cross beam. The ratchamatic blocks go on the shroud anchors.

There is a very nice installation document written by OttawaDave. He sent me a copy and I have been meaning to update it based on my experience. Let me know if you are interested and I can send you the document.

The spinnaker is a great upgrade, unless your mast breaks. :-)

The blocks are positioned on the wings for us. This allows a bigger slot for down wind sailing. It's worked wel for us the past few years.

The next question is - - how do you secure/suspend the spinnaker pole at the jib furler/bridal wire area. I've benn playing around with this configuration for a while. If the pole sits too low then snuffer will scoop in water from waves. If the pole is set too high then it chokes off the jib furler. So far I've found that using a heavig duty elastic cord wrapped around the pole and out to each bridal wire has worked really well.

In any set up configuration the Hobie Spinnaker is great addition!!

Watch mast rotation and sheet tension when the chute is up. Be very careful about gusty conditions and sudden sheet loads.

What's the trailering situation with the spin pole? I've seen different setups on other spin cats, but I'm curious if that changes at all with the front tramp on the Getaway.

Kit arrived yesterday, going to install it tonight. Looks like there are some sleeves included with the rivets. What are they for? Maybe they are just rivets that have separated from the shanks?

For rivets placed in a mast to waterproof the locations. Rivets are hollow.

They just look like stainless steel rivets with no shank, but they fit over the pop rivet heads. These go on the rivets first?

Thanks to dksailor and mmiller, I got it set up and tried it out over labor day week end at Bear Lake. It worked perfectly! A think of beauty. It really boosts your down wind speed and it looks fantastic. The additional instructions provided by dksailor where invaluable, perhaps they should be looked over and updated, then included with the kit. ;)

As far as trailing goes, I left the snuffer all but rigged, but of course, the bow sprint needs to be detached and bunged to the tramp. I'll post some pics soon.

Great picture. I'm told the colors available for the spin from Hobie do not match the main and jib colors since the spins are made by another company which uses different sail clothe than Hobie uses for the main and jib. While the blue looks good in the picture posted here, Kevin has told me that it only looks like it matches due to the sun shinning through it in the picture. The blue is actually darker (more royal blue, less turquoise) and the yellow one not as bright and more flat in color than the Yellow in the hobie main . That leaves red or white. Does anyone have a picture of any other color Hobie spin? I'm going to be purchasing the kit this winter and haven't decided on the color yet. I have brand new Seabreeze sails (Yellow/Green/Blue). I've asked my Hobie dealer for color swatches but they are not available.
