Hi Matt,

Would Hobie happen to have a yellow Spinnaker in stock for a Hobie Getaway?

We're kind of partial to the yellow, since it gives the good ole' seabreeze sails that extra wow factor. :)

Hi Josh

You wouldn't happen to already have the yellow spin and looking to replace it? If so, wondering if you have a picture and if you can tell me how well it matches to the yellow in the seabreeze sail. I'm looking to add a spin to my boat and was told the blue and yellow do not match. Yellow is more of a pale flat yellow and the blue is a more deeper royal blue. I guess the spins are not made by Hobie so a different sail clothe is used.

Thanks - - How does it compare with the yellow in the main? (nevermind, you posted while I was typing)

Also has it worn out already after 5 years? How often is it used and do you keep it covered when not in use?

We're probably not the typical user. We've used this puppy to carry us on a broad reach from Tampa Florida.... south 300 miles to the Keys for about 5 years now. That's about 1500 miles on it. We keep stored it in the spinnaker bag/snuffer on the boat. We COULD simply repair the tear we made in it however we're more inclined to purchase a new one as backup. The spinnaker plays a big role in the boats performance during our expedition to the keys so we're more so opting to take the option of having an additional spin on hand.

If color is important to you, you might want to ask at a local loft and bring the sail with you so he can match it...there's no magic in Hobie designed sails. Actually, their spins are cut a little too flat for my taste on the Getaway, but then I like to run deep since that's more in the direction I want to go. If you want someone familiar with the boat, try SLOsails in San Luis Obispo here in CA... Clamcounter, would love to hear more on your trips from Clearwater to Fl Keys. I purchased a Getaway and am very happy with it. I am Planning on doing a little cruising in that area too . I live in Gainesville but have been sailing Dunedin, Honeymoon Island, Calidesi, Ft Desoto, shell Key, and egmont . Maybe you could start a blog with tips for sailing that area? :)

Hah! That's awesome. Not sure who shot the video but the conditions shot there were a lot calmer than they were later in the day. It looks like a pretty light morning seeing how we paddled off the beach. But as soon as we left Tampa Bay and headed south the winds picked up tremendously. We actually ended up furling our jib and reefing the main for a large wave surfing run about 70 miles south to Boca Grande.

I'm still on the hunt for a yellow spinnaker. Looks like the local hobie retailers are saying only red or blue is in stock. So I may be left with 1 of 3 options:

1.) Hope the blue spin somewhat matches Hobie's Seabreeze sails

2.) Attempt to purchase a yellow one listed on the Hobie Cat Europe retailers in France.

3.) Inquire about having a yellow spin made by some sail maker if I give them the measurements. (Not sure how this would work out. I'd prefer to buy the hobie model instead.)

The nice thing about having a spin made, is you can customize the colors for your seabreeze sails. Note that your spin is a triradial spinnaker. SO, you could have a center "star" of blue, surrounded by some panels of green and all surrounded by yellow. ... or you could go wild and have fluorescent green and black.... Solid one color spins are boring.

The mainsail/jib is dacron, the spinnaker is made from nylon...the dyes are different and the cloth takes the dies differently ... so matching exactly will be difficult but do'able since there are dozens of sailcloth manufacturers.

The only difficulty might be in using a sailmaker who isn't familiar with making snuffing spins. The good news is you already have a spin to show him. He could make an exact match or optimize it for running or reaching.

Anyway, good luck in this years' EC.
