What do you use for a rear mast cradle for trailering? I just picked up a 06 Getaway and the PO just used a piece of rubber and used the main sheet to tie down. Doesn't seem like this would be good for the sheet and the rubber could move and leave the mast resting on the crossbar.
I see in the Hobie accessory catalog the have a fiberglas mast cradle but it has about every model but the Getaway. Will this work on the Getaway? Also it looks like from the picture that the track is on the bottom of the cradle. Shouldn't it be up so that it doesn't get warped? Thanks for your help. Jim

Hello,

I'm 99.9% sure that the Hobie Mast Cradle shown in the catalog for the 14,16,17, 20 and 21SC will fit your Getaway just fine.

I own a Hobie Wave with optional travelers kit and this is the one I use. It fits perfectly.

I just use a boat cushion and strap the mast through the handles down to the trailer has held fine and never slipped and the price was good.

The dealer threw in the mast cradle when I bought my Getaway, unfortunately he was out of stock at the time. I used foam etc in the meanwhile, but it didn't work or look very well. When the mast cradle did finally arrive, wow! It's soooo much easier, and works great!

I used the example of Steve's cradle to guide me in building an inexpensive mast cradle. It seems to work nicely. Cost was less than $15.00. I bought the parts at Walmart. Check the link below. He has several worthwhile projects for the boat and trailer.
