Post subject:  Roller Furler rebuild

Is the roller furler for the H18 listed in the Hobie catalogue the same as the one used on a 2001 Getaway? Or does it have it's own furler not listed in the catalogue?

Also can anyone provide advice on which parts i should order to rebuild the roller furler? It is difficult and not smooth to roll in or out. It has noticeable places where it sticks. Almost feels like missing or broken bearings or maybe even pitted? I was going to order bearing cage/bearings and races and perhaps sleeves? Is it possible I need a new sleeve b.c. they're about $50.00?

Insight, advice. Hoping to drop the mast once for this.

Hey Han, The furler is the same. The rebuild kit offered for the 18 furler will do the trick. It's around $40 and worth every cent. You get new bearings, races, snap rings, bushings, housing, and spool. It should take care of pretty much any problem that you have with the furler. To make the bearings 'stick' in the race during assembly, I use a little grease. Don't do this repair on the beach!! There's a bunch of little parts that could get lost. You'll need a screwdriver (older ones were flat, new ones are phillips, or visa versa, can't recall) and a pair of snap ring pliers.
