I am enjoying my 05 getaway, I am impressed by how it will stay flat under varying/gusty lake winds. Much more relaxed high speed sailing than my older daysailers. Did some late summer sailing on cape cod bay and my crew got a little wetter than we would have liked. Obviously clothes are important but what about this splash transparent mesh tramp? Has anybody tried to block the splashing or used a solid tramp? I saw one of the canvas companies sells solid tramps for hobie 14s, apparently they are used on the great lakes. |

You run a little greater risk of capsize with an impermeable tramp, but not significant for the getaway since the tramp is already pretty closed up. Were crew getting that wet just from below the tramp or was there significant spray? It really isn't a dry boat, but drier than some. |

In the bay it seemed that all or most of the water we took was from below. Sea was a little rough. The other option is some kind of plastic barrier, maybe just below the front half of the tramp. That way any water that did get on the tramp would still drain away. |

SLO sails has a vinyl tramp for the Getaway. https://www.slosailandcanvas.com/2pc-af ... ran-vinyl/ This is the main tramp, not the forward one. However, my guess is they could custom make one for you for the forward tramp. One cost of a vinyl tramp is that any water that comes over the tramp will stay as a puddle. That's why many of us who have used vinyl tramps have gone to mesh. I'd also be concerned about whether the solid tramp in a forward position would increase the chances of capsize from wind getting under it. Jim Clark-Dawe |

The forward tramp MUST drain and drain QUICKLY. In conditions with steep chop, you can easily pitchpole with one that does not. Been there, done that! |

Thanks both. I'm mostly thinking about the rear tramp, where we sit. So I guess the options there are the solid rear tramp, or some kind of partial barrier underneath at least the forward part of the rear tramp. This would still allow drainage for any water that came over the tramp. Mulling over the options... |
