I need description or catalog number. Delers recommend Hot Stick FX3 or FX6. The length is different and I don't want to get one which is too long. I am still getting used to standard one- never sailed with the stick before- it gets stuck sometimes with a main sheet or my life jacket. I have Geteway with wings which dimentions are similar to H17 and for that one FX6 is recommended. Do Harken blocks from H16 are recommended for Getaway? It has 6:1 tackle instead of 5:1 ? |

The Hobie 16 / 6:1 blocks would be perfect for the Getaway. Latest blocks on the 16 are Harken H2640 Carbo Triple and H194 Triple ratchet. Shown on the upper right of page 25. The hotstick? The FX6 might be a bit long. That one is long enough to use while trapped from the SX wing. If you trap from the rail, then the FX3 is good. The extra length of the FX6 would allow you to get more forward in light air. |

I think I will go with FX4- it is shorter than standard in folded posision and longer than FX3 as extended one. I will never trapp from the wing-this is a social boat not a racing one. Since FX3 is recommended for H16 and FX6 with H17 and up I can't go wrong with FX4 and as you mentioned I may need extra lenght during light wind. I looked at other posts-seems like I will be the only one with FX4 and Getaway. Why people recommend changing blocks for Getaway? Are Harkens much better or easier to sail with? I am still getting used to original Getaway rigging but if I can make my sailing easier or if it gives me better reach for my beer in the cooler I'll get the new one. |

If they "ain't broke, don't fix 'em", would be my recommendation. The Harkens will have an easier to adjust jaw angle, but other than that... not much different. |

I agree. If it is not broken don't fix it. Harken blocks are a significant investment for a modest improvement in performance. The difference to a highly experienced cat sailor that can reflexively react by snapping the main sheet in and out is probably marginal. For the new cat sailor that hasn't mastered the snap technique the slight difference in performance will make the difference between sailing and swimming. If it ever takes 2 or more tries to release the main sheet in a blow you should probably consider the upgrade. |
