Post subject: | Spinnaker Revisited |
I was impressed with Steve's Getaway Mods, mentioned in previous postings. What are people doing for a spinnaker on the Getaway? Are you just modifying the H16 like Steve or???? I have done some of the same things noted in Steve's site http://steve.skybeach.org/sailing_files/sailing2.htm The dual hiking sticks made from cheap aluminum paint rod extentions was a flop for me at least. The first time out using them in light winds of 5-10mph, one got bent. I wasn't even sailing very hard. I'm going to get an FX3 or 6 Hot Stick and just pass it behind. I did the 12" PVC pipe sail tube and it works well except when I'm done sailing and put the Getaway back on the trailer, I just came out of the water and it is still wet inside the tube; I hesitate puting my sails and stuff in the wet tube to store until next time. Drying some with a towel doesn't seem to be enough. For my rear mast cradle I just use a silicone hot pad between the rear crossbar and the mast. I pull it with a fullsize van and raising the back of the mast afew inches doesn't give me enough clearance over the van. Anyway back to my question about a spinnaker - is anyone else modifing one for the Getaway? Is Hobie going to make one? |
