Oops, I didn't know this is frowned on, and I had been doing it regularly last season. Don't need to cut anything (mine is an 07), just adjusted the adjustable part of the line at the end where it hooks to the harness and stood way back. It does get crazy, but crazy fun! Most of the time I was single piloting, and yes, flipped once or twice, and pitched once. IT'S A BLAST!!! Anyone know why this is not recommended? Or that it really is not an issue?

I do it on our 06 getaway....there are multiple reasons for them not liking this...the Trap. wires are too long....like you i just adjusted the little rope part ..(sorry dont know the technical term) second the wings werent designed for this...i think they worry about someone forgetting to put the pins in and having the wings collapse inwards.... third is the extra load on the mast I'm 22 years old..and only weigh 150lb so Im not much weight...compared to my dad 220lb....he wont even dare to go out on trap...besides...we've found our fastest way to sail is me on trap...controlling the lines and him with is weight on the back steering...only problem is sometimes he gets crazy and has stuffed it into a wave once (we sail on the open ocean) and I took a trip around the mast...ended up sitting on the other wing seat ..so now im a little paranoid and i keep a VERY close eye on whats ahead. sometimes i will climb over the wing and put my feet on the hull where they're supposed to be...but this is rare.

Hmmmmmmm, I'm 205 lbs, but I was figuring that load on the mast was pretty small, especially if you think of the loading when under sail. I'd like to hear from one of the Hobie guys on that. That is hilarious that you wound around the whole boat and onto the other side! I started to do that once when I stuffed into a wave, but alone I just ended up out in the water in front of the boat as it pitched forward.

it was pretty scary at the time...I had stopped paying attention for a wee bit..looked forward..saw the wave...next thing i knew I was flying through the air thinking...this is going to hurt...I remember flying...then stopping and realizing I was sitting on the wing seat on the opposite side.. ...the boat must've pitched forward and leeward with me as i went around because when I realized where I was...I was sitting on the wing..(in the water)...with the sail above me making a kind of tent. We had some fun with our Getaway this summer....we even had the experience of blowing a shroud...mast doesn't come down violently as i thought it would..its actually quite slow...wing seat kept the mast out of the water..and we were able to sail downwind to where we came from using the jib....odd thing is not a single boat stopped to ask if we were alright that day..and there were a lot of boats in the area.
