Post subject:  Getaway mod and update - that time of year.

Hi Guys and Gals.

It's that time of year again.

After attending the Spring Fever Regatta at Lake Hartwell GA, I had the itch again. What a great regatta by the way.

After returning to NC I felt the need to update my Getaway.

Here's what I did this time.

1) New Main Sheet.
2) New Jib Sheet.
3) New Front Tramp
3) 3-hole Jib Sheet Clew.
4) 5:1 Down haul adjuster.

So what did I get, well the new lines runs smoother and bites better in strong winds I had a problem with the main sheet loosing it's grip and sliding out. That's no longer an issue.

The 5:1 Down Haul was a great improvement over over stock. Changing from upwind to downwind and light to strong wind is now easy, and the sail keeps looking good and tight in all condition, not to mention the added tool for de-powering the main during strong winds.

The 3-hole Jib Clew also gives me better control over the jib, changing the mast rake would change the shape of the jib to a sometimes unwanted shape, and this eliminates this.

And of course I'm 100% sure I picked up 0.01knots. But it's fun to play around with your baby, and I'm enjoying it.

I think Hobie should offer a down haul kit for the Getaway, i find it very useful and it's really easy to install. Took me a total of 15min.

Here are some pictures.

Nice work... While the Getaway may be a "Roto" boat, it's got potential for serious giggle factor.

p.s. "Giggle Factor" is a good thing. You know... When you're having so much fun that you giggle.

Now if I could only widen the Getaway 1ft, lengthen it 1ft 4inch, to a nice 8'6'' x 18' package. And Increase the sail area to about 220sq ft, I'll have a perfect boat, and ohhh yes a spinnaker kit with no weight increase. Now that would be a boat for me. I guess they call it a Tiger :)

But I have to say I do like the indestructible rotor molded hulls on the getaway. I'm afraid of getting a fiber glass boat the way i use my Getaway.

Even though many people find it useless to "hop up" a Getaway I find it fun and rewarding to do so.

On a windy day the Getaway is not that slow around the course, it really hurts when it's 8mph and bellow, then the small sail (180sq ft) and the heavy weight take it's toll.
