I just purchased a used Getaway. I want to be able to sail in the ocean which means going in and out the inlet here in Fort Pierce FL. I will need a motor to do this. My question is how much weight can the cheata motor mount hold. I am not sure a Honda 2 HP would be big enough to do the job. I am thinking about the Mercury 3.5 which weighs 38 lbs dry. Any thoughts on the matter? |

I have used a 2 hp Honda out of the SF bay . The 2 hp Honda will do fine. The cheata mount would hold both motors, but why add the weight? Dragging anything behind you will slow your boat while under sail and that's what you bought the boat for. No Worries Paul |

There is a very fast current in this inlet at times. How fast can a 2 HP Honda push a Getaway? |

Get a set of beech wheels and put it in the water at the end of Seaway Dr. That inlet can be, just like you say, VERY strong and choppy. If you go the motor route i would probably motor with sails down through the inlet and raise sails on the south beach after passing through. Beach wheels are very useful and highly recommended for Florida use. Since the Getaway is heavy you will need a helping hand though. |
