The glue that holds my comptip together failed and the two mast pieces separated. This happened when I was trailering, and as far as I can tell, there is no damage to the mast. (Thankfully the two pieces just fell onto the tramp, not the road). I need to know if I can still sail the boat without the glue, at least until I can reglue it. The boat is a 2008. I picked it up last week, and sailed it twice this weekend. The glue must not have been set completely when I picked it up and the 100 mile trip home must have bounced the joint enough to prevent the glue from setting. Anyways, the boat was crazy fast, and I dont want to wait weeks to get the mast fixed before I can sail it again. |

Since the shrouds are attatched to the com tip and not the aluminum mast, as long as the shrouds are tight it will hold the com tip in place. |

agreed. You can glue it back together tonight, this time tomorrow you'd be good to go. |

Aight well Im gunna get some West Systems epoxy and fix it. Has anyone else had this problem? I cant believe there aren't any screws or rivits to help hold it in place. Matt do you see any problem in putting a few small stainless screws to complement the glue? Possibly 3-4 for each side of the mast? After the glue drys I would drill small pilot holes and install small screws. Also, can the joint be filled in to create an almost smooth surface? The outer gell/fiberglass is all chipped now on the comp tip. Can that be filled and faired in with an epoxy putty? Any help would be great, its a 200+ mile drive to the dealer. 200+ to drop the mast off, then another 200 to pick up the mast. |

sail, You're on the right track. West Systems and some type of filler to thicken it up (I use 404 adhesive filler, but any of it will do). I have one on the beach here that I need to fix that had the same issues. Sometimes when epoxy sits around for a while it won't go off all the way. Who knows?? I plan to re-epoxy and put a couple of rivets in the one on the beach. That oughta fix it
